Question 4) What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey, the world's leading questionnaire tool.

I created a survey to gain primary information from people about my music video. This survey will allow me to see if my music video is viewed the way we wanted, also allowing me gain information on things i could change when next making a video.

My target audience were young people aged 14 - 25. Therefore when getting audience feedback I asked what age group the artists were to the participants. Many guessed between 14 and early 20s, this shows me that my artist brand image was well presented as the audience could identify their ages quickly. Furthermore many used the words 'fun' and 'lively' in their feedback, this shows me that the performance of the artist were very well crafted as they matched mood we wanted the artists to represent. Lastly man complemented our use of editing, for example the trumpet slide and the zooms at the beginning and end of my video, they said this added to the fun atmosphere in the video.

Our video was placed on vimeo where viewers were able to comment on our video. Below are some of the comments made.

You can see that they admired the artist performance, which allows me to understand that our performance suited the upbeat feel of the song. The beginning of the video was also seen as adding to the lively mood.

We were able to see how many people viewed our video and their location. As seen all the people that viewed it were in the UK, which was where our target audience was. However what I’ve seen is that our distribution of our video was only put on one media platform meaning it wasn't viewed by the majority audience, for example a social network like twitter would have been better as it has access to more of our target audience.

From my criticisms of my video I have learnt that some shots were too 'dark' and that I should have used a variation of different shot types and locations. Personally, I agree with this as I can see that my main base track was shot against a dark background. To improve this we could have chose a better location or filmed during the day instead of at night. However I feel that the main reason for the footage being dark is because the light batteries were very short, therefore we only had a limited amount of time to take a perfect base track. Additionally, I feel we used several locations, maybe because many were shot against a graffiti wall, they all look similar, therefore we could have used different backgrounds to differentiate the locations better.

If I could make the video again I would have used different locations and greater diversification of shot type. I think my video had few close ups, Andrew Goodwin explains how music videos are supposed to promote the artists and my video lacked a key way of promoting the artist to the audience through close ups.
