Video's I was influenced by and why?
One of the video's I really enjoyed watching was 'Can't Stop Feeling'. Although we didn't integrate as many ideas as we wanted to as they were quite time consuming, you can see we have used one of our favourites from the video.
As you can see the hammer is used in order to change the scene. Influenced by this, we tried to recreate this however with a trumpet, following our video's theme. I believe it worked quite successfully as we were able to repeat it prior to every chorus, creating a base to our video that our audience could relate to.
Below is a short clip of our version from our final media product:
I think this worked effectively as the movement from scene to scene was emphasised and also caused a central focus of attention onto the main prop in our music video, hence the song title 'Down With The Trumpets'.
Another video that influenced our editing was 'The Game - Dreams'. We really enjoyed the way in which a still shot was used in order to create a shift from one scene to another and also integrated this style of editing into our final media product. We used it at the beginning of our video and at the end to create a sense of a cycle; meaning the beginning and ending are both in the same place.
Above is our initial inspiration for this style of editing
In our media product we used a still shot from our video in order to keep it as accurate as possible so that the style of editing worked effectively. The beginning is a shot from our first scene and the camera zooms into the still photo before the next scene starts. We ensured that the camera had zoomed in to the whole picture before we proceeded for the photo turned to life to avoid any major glitches.
Furthermore at the end we also continued this theme and ended the video with the artists facing directly at the audience before zooming out, showing our artists in the studio doing what they love most (creating music and reflecting in order to improve).
As our artists are new to the music industry we thought it was very important that the artists were making eye contact with the audience at the end so the audience were left with an image of their faces, in order to recognise their faces in the future.
Below is our beginning and ending influenced by 'The Game - Dreams' video.
As you can see we have decided to have the still image on the screen at the studio to reflect their dedication to music. Showing how they look back on the work they have produced.
'Papoose - Graffiti Video'
Papoose is an American hip hop artist which makes music of a similar genre to our original artists 'Rizzle Kicks'. Although he is more of an underground rapper in comparison to our more commercial artists 'Double Trouble', we thought the mise en scene worked quite effectively, and also used a skate park with graffiti as one of our main scenes.
I also continued the theme onto our ancillary work in order to make it clear to our target audience the genre of our artists. I also thought the graffiti shots I captured worked really well with my colour scheme.
'Kanye West - The Good Life'
Kanye West's video 'The Good Life' was initially an influence to my media product as we planned to have similar font effects where lyrics would appear on the screen when the artist pointed in a certain direction. However, we did not have enough time to carry out the necessary filming for the editing. Despite this, when deciding on what font to use for the digipak for such genre, I decided that the bubble type writing which connotes an urban culture worked best. I also took into consideration that in the urban culture they replace words like 'two' with the actual number and so carried this out in my work with the album title; Soundtrack 2 Chaos.
I noticed that in many UK hip hop/pop artists their albums tend to contain a similar style of bubble writing. They tend to also use bright colours and a lot of yellow. Initially I wanted to use a plain white background for my digipak however it was not very conventional so I used the purple background. Also, in one of NDubz' albums they have a graffiti/gritty font which is not what I used however I had the graffiti background which shows some aspect of 'underground' music.
I think we followed through Andrew Goodwins theorys as although our genre was 'pop/hip hop' we challenged the usual stereotypes for that genre, and followed the rules of Andrew Goodwin.
Here are some key features that distinguish our music video form.
· There is a connection between the lyrics and visuals. The visuals illustrate, amplify or contradict the lyrics.
- Our video is mainly illustration and amplification.
· There are several close ups of the main artist(s), as its their music video being promoted.
· Codes and conventions we expect to see.
- Beggining middle and end.
Some aspects of Laura Mulveys theory is shown in our video as although I play a role in the video, however am wearing alot of clothing, I am portrayed as an object when Lorenzo 'steals' me from Deivid.
