I initially chose to have a white, black and red colour scheme for my digipak, however I felt the white background looked too simplistic and did not convey the groups actual characteristics. The white was too boring and chose to make the background purple after asking my peers who fit the description of our target audience.
Below are some screen grabs of how I began making my CD cover.
I decided to use one of our shots of scenery (graffiti background) as the basis of the CD cover. I thought it worked well and quite effectively as it matched the coloiyr scheme i had chosen.
I ensured that our artists were looking at the camera as it supports the conventions of a CD cover of new artists. You can clearly see their faces and the mise en scene (costumes) portrays the youthfulness in them.
I also ensured that the name of the group was the biggest font of the cover, followed by 'soundtrack to chaos'. We chose this as it is simple yet shows an understanding of what the songs on the album will be like.
I had trouble whilst trying to keep the graffiti consistent as it was hard to find a colour for the font that didn't clash with the graffiti. At one point (when the screen grab was taken) I had decided to completely take away the graffiti however came to a conclusion that by providing these white bubbles, I was able to still use the background and have clear writing for the track list.
