Spike Jonze

Whilst doing some research at popular video directors; I looked at some Spike Jonze videos. He is better known for directing videos however I find some of his music videos inspiring.

Firstly, the lyrics of the song have little relation to the visuals within the video. But the video is very well constructed in telling a story. I think the location is very well chosen, especially when you see the tracking shot of her walking towards the car with the background of the city lights. This adds to ‘realism’ of the story because she is far away from the city when the murder takes place, hence meaning no witnesses around. Furthermore, I really like the medium shot where you see the fire light up behind her.

This video has a great location for the events taking place. And throughout; the focus is on the two artists. The video looks as if they were having a lot of fun filming it. Having background knowledge of the two artists the video was really unconventional for them as we hardly ever see Jay –Z in such a playful mood. The video almost brings two multi millionaires back to their childhood as their just playing; however they look like spoilt kids as they dismantle a Maybach car
