In my independent research I watched some videos that I found to be quite iconic. I chose Pink- Stupid Girl as it holds a good perspective on being famous/rich.
Pink promotes herself in a very intelligent manner as she plays all the female characters in her video. She sends a message that although you may have money you do not have to follow the stereotypical life of a celeb. This humorous video is amplification as she exxagerates the characters personalities in order to make it funny and obvious.
Pink portrays herself as a leader and a very fun, strong and humorous person in order to promote herself to her target audience. This allows her target audience to feel more connected to her as they are aware that she is just a 'normal person'. This approach will probably sell lots of concert tickets allowing her to still make profits from her music despite the current affairs of illegal downloading.
There are lots of media language throughout the video for example at the beginning there is a black and white visual on the little girls tv screen. Moreover there is also an 'angel and devil' besides the little girl. The angel is dressed in all white which connotes a peaceful and pure person, however the devil is on fire which connotes danger and evil emphasising the characters.
This video breaks the theory of continuity as there are a lot of jump cuts to the different characters, however has a 'base track' of the original character which is the woman running for president who is narrating the video. It is also present that there is use of green screen when one of Pink's characters is in a car.
Pink has also presented the characters with precise costumes as they all connote a stereotypical character. For example the woman running for president is dressed in a suit with reading glasses which portrays her as smart and successful. Whereas one of Pink's other characters is dressed in a fur coat with long brunette hair and sunglasses with a big hand bag which usually connotes a 'bimbo' or a less intelligent woman.
This video refutes Laura Mulveys theory as she is mocking the stereotypical 'attractive girl' and showing how ridiculous it is and that intelligent girls can also be attractive without flaunting themself in such a manner.
This has influenced my music video as the costume of the 'bimbo' has been incorporated to the female in my music video, although we may not use that footage, I will blog later showing how she is presented as self obsessed.
