As you can see I changed the background colour back to white and added in the image of the artists. I also made black lines separate the top and bottom sections from the middle. Moreover,
I made the tracklist be in red boxes creating a link with the front panel and positioned the boxes slanted making it gave a tumbling effect this matches the genre and artists image as it looks fun.
I started work on my front and back panels. I used the 'Bring Tha Noize' font i downloaded. I added the track list to the back panel and the front panel has the same font. The background is white as it makes the text stand out. I made the words 'Trouble & Chaos' be in red to add importance them.

Here I changed the track list font because it looked a little hard to read so I made a simple font be used which was 'Calbri'. However because the font was different to the  one used on the front panel I tried to create a link by making part of 'double' and 'soundtrack to' have the same font while 'trouble' and 'chaos' had different fonts making them have greater importance and apperance.

Here I made the background colour grey because I thought white was plain. I'm waiting to put the  images of the artists on. Also made the artist name have one font istead of two fonts because it looked a little out of place and made the album name have its own font.

I looked at the original artists album work and noticed it was very simple. Therefore i chose to keep my digipak simple. They used two fonts one for the album title and one for the track listing and artist name.

Influences Of The White background

I looked at serveral artists who used the white background, the benefit of using one is that it makes eveything more clear and is simple but effective

Photos

Today I took the digipak photos for Double Trouble. We used the photography class room because it had a white wall which matched the of my digipak. The only problem I have with photos is that Lorenzo is wearing yellow, but I wanted the colour scheme to be black white and red. However I don't think this will be a big problem. The photos are below.

Mock Up Advertisement

This was my original idea for my advertisement. I kept to my three rule colour scheme (white, red and black). I twas gonna be an album cover poster with reviews. However, I felt it would look plain so changede my idea.

I decided to add in tour dates to make more information be on the poster as it was plain

Mock Up Digipak

I plan, to keep it simple my having a just the album name and the artist name on the actually CD panel. I'm still undecided on my second inside panel. However i may have credits of who wrote the album and production credits.
On my front panel I want a picture of the two artists with the artist name above them and the album name below that. Then on the back panel I wanted a picture of a microphone and with the track list on the side of that. Then have little blood tear drops dropping from the mic as a metaphor of the term 'blood sweat and tears' used in hip hop therefore showing a link from my cover to the codes and conventions of the genre.
However, I want to change my original ideas. I want to make the front panel have a border within the middle separating the picture and the text. And on the back panel i will remove the tears and the mic because they differ from the type of brand image shown in the video where the artists were more playful then having a stereotypical 'hardman' hip hop image.

Things to do and Things not to do

Below are the things we should the do and the thing we shouldn't do.
Things to do:

  • Use a clear font
  • Stick to no more then two fonts
  • Use clear photos
  • Follow the conventions of your artists genre
  • Use up to 3 colours
  • Use your record lables logo, copyright, add a barcode and artist website
  • Simple Language
  • Release Date and tour dates must be carefully placed
  • Position the artist name and album title carefully make them large so that they are seen.
Things not to do:
  • Don't stretch images
  • Don't use too many effects
  • Don't over use fonts and colours
  • Don't place text over artist faces
  • Use the actual artists that appeared in the video and dont introduce new artists
  • Use seperate photos on each panel

Ideas On Layout, Design and Colours

My digipak and advertisement will have a theme of three colours. They are white, black and red. I want it to be simple but bold. These colours are typically used within the genre of artists. At first I planned to use yellow, black and white because UK artists Chipmunk and Dizzee Rascal followed a similar theme and to an extent they are similar to our artists in terms of creating a pop record.
I also want to make the words 'trouble' and 'chaos' be in red so that they carry extra importance.
For my front panel I want the artist name at the top with the photo in the middle then the album name at the photo. On the back panel I plan to have a picture of a microphone. With the wire extending across the back panel onto the front.

Researching Ancillary Products - Fonts Part 2

My first choice was 'Marker Felt' as it looks similar to Badaboom which will be on the front panel. However after some reconsideration, I compared the font to two others. One which still had another comic look about it, and another which was plain.

I decided to choose the plain font 'Century Gothic' merely because it can be read easily, and everything else such as the production information, and promotional sticker can be worded in this font also.

Digipak Research

Since my theme and design idea is based around comic books. I took it upon myself to do some research on pop art, and some of its infamous designs.

The dot pattern is what I have chose to be my main design behind the image of the artist on the front panel and on the back panel.

After some snooping around I found out Roy Lichtenstein a famous american pop artist, was well known for this 'dot pattern' and many other basic comic designs.
Below are some examples of his work

Fonts

Here are the shortlisted for my digipak and advertisement. I got the fonts from http://www.1001freefonts.com/graffiti-fonts.php. I wanted a graffiti or street styled font because it matched the artist image of being young fun teens. The street art effect matches the genre and relates to their brand image. I will use the font 'Calbri' also for my work as its simple and easy to read but also matches the theme of the work and adds to the effect of the other font.

Researching Ancillary Products - Digipak Design Brief Font

Keeping with the comic book theme. I found a font called 'Badaboom' I think its suitable for the Front panel

For my track list on the back panel I found a font on the mac called 'Marker Felt'
Which is a slightly toned down version of Badaboom
